Sallie Barker has extensive work experience in healthcare administration and communications. Starting in 1998 at Athens Regional Medical Center, they worked as a Corporate Communications Associate until 2001. From 2001 to 2004, they served as the Public Relations Director at UGA's Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication. Sallie then joined the Georgia Health Policy Center as a Project Director, providing executive communications support until 2007. From 2007 to 2016, Sallie worked at Upson Regional Medical Center, first as the Director of Communications and then as the Director of Strategy and Business Development. Their responsibilities included overseeing marketing, community benefit, public relations, as well as managing projects such as telemedicine and student recruitment. Since 2018, Sallie has been the Director of the Office of Health Services at the State of Georgia.
Sallie Barker completed their Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from The University of Georgia in the years 1994 to 1998. Later, they pursued a Master's degree in Healthcare Administration from South University from 2017 to 2018.
