Gareth McGuinness

Gareth McGuinness is a seasoned professional with extensive experience in data policy, legislation, and management. Currently serving as Senior Manager of Data Policy and Legislation at Stats NZ since October 2020, Gareth previously held significant positions at the International Monetary Fund from February 2008 to May 2019, including Section Chief in the Statistics Department, where responsibilities encompassed managing teams and implementing global data initiatives. Earlier roles at Statistics New Zealand involved leading strategic communications, product development, and project management. Gareth holds a Master of Public Management and a Bachelor of Laws from Victoria University of Wellington, as well as degrees in Economics and Music Composition from Massey University and the University of Auckland, respectively.
