Rob Sweeney is an accomplished scientist and engineer with extensive experience in research and development, particularly in detection algorithms and control systems. Serving as Chief Scientist, Principal Researcher, and Lead Researcher at STR since February 2020, Sweeney focuses on innovative solutions in complex environments. Prior to this, a decade at MIT Lincoln Laboratory involved developing algorithms for high noise scenarios and modeling for performance prediction. Experience at Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems included contributions to spacecraft control systems and dynamic modeling, while Sweeney also led guidance, navigation, and control efforts for a NASA project aimed at lunar regolith collection. Sweeney holds a Master of Science and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, along with a Bachelor of Arts in Physics from The College of Wooster.
