Michael Orr

Director - Marine Engineering at SubCom

Michael Orr has over 20 years of work experience in marine engineering and archaeological research. Michael started their career at Cultural Resource Analysts, Inc. in 1999, where they worked as a CAD/GIS Specialist and Archaeological Technician. In this role, they performed CAD/GIS work, conducted Phase I Archaeological Surveys, and conducted research of historical records.

In 2008, Michael joined SubCom as a Marine Engineering Senior Manager. Michael managed a team responsible for Desktop Studies and Marine Route Surveys for submarine fiber optic cable construction. Their team ensured that the most feasible and cost-effective routes were chosen and that appropriate protection measures were implemented to avoid costly repairs. In January 2022, they were promoted to Director - Marine Engineering.

From 1993 to 1997, Michael Orr attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Classical, Ancient Mediterranean and Near Eastern Studies and Archaeology. Later, from 2006 to 2008, they pursued a Master of Science degree in Physical Sciences at Marshall University.
