Position Description: 

The Solar Residential PV Installer is primarily engaged in installing rooftop solar electric panels at Sun Light and Power. This is an important role that requires experience with the residential rooftop solar installation processes, the materials, and tools involved. All installers have a responsibility and commitment to working safely. A strong Installer will prepare for their upcoming builds by reviewing residential PV solar drawings, the bill of materials, the safety plan, information about the timeline, expectations, and the mission of our customers who go solar. The best Installers can pull off a safe, smooth, and swift installation by preparing in advance and following established processes. The most successful Installers can think quickly on their feet to problem solve when challenges arise. Installation crew members are always coaching, encouraging, and growing the team’s installation skills. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Ensuring every project meets or exceeds the client’s expectations

  • Implementing and monitoring the safety plan for the project.

  • Participate in safety meetings.

  • Maintaining a good rapport with all team members.

  • Reviewing BOM (bill of materials) and verifying correct materials are available in time to maintain work flow.

  • Coordinating and executing material pickups from central warehouse (Berkeley), transportation to the site, and materials management at the site from beginning to end of the build.

  • Safely and effectively unload, set up, climb, break down and reload large ladders.

  • Working safely and efficiently at height, while tied in, often on a pitched roof plane

  • Safely operate power tools and hand-tools (i.e., cordless drills, tape measure, circular saw, reciprocating saw, portable band saw).

  • Help hoist PV solar modules to residential rooftops in a safe and controlled fashion using industry and SLP best practices.

  • Install PV Modules (includes staging, prepping, securing module wiring, fastening, grounding, aligning modules aesthetically, etc.)

  • Assist with wire pulls.

  • Take photos of work progress and completion at the site. Document job build and upload photos and information to cloud-based project folder.

  • Ensure the work site is clean; clear site of clutter and other hazards.  Maintain clean and neat tools and workspace.

  • Complete daily time sheet reflecting details of the day

  • Perform other duties as assigned

  

Qualifications: 

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate respectfully and clearly.

  • A strong work ethic; be attentive and ready to learn; must possess a positive attitude and be committed to quality work.

  • Ability to work in extreme environments (hot sun, light rain, crawl spaces or attics, steep roofs in a harness)

  • Basic carpentry skills.

  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds.

  • Have experience with and proven knowledge of basic arithmetic, fractions, and geometry (must be able to use a tape measure, effectively calculate measurements, etc.)

  • Hold a current CA driver license with an acceptable driving record.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
