Derek Stratton

Derek Stratton is a Principal R&D Engineer at Surmodics, a position held since October 2019, with prior experience as a Senior R&D Engineer at Vascular Solutions until its acquisition by Teleflex in October 2019. In these roles, Derek has been instrumental in developing new designs and managing cross-functional teams throughout the product lifecycle, from concept to commercial launch. Responsibilities include completing design history files for new products, including specifications, testing methods, DFMEA, and regulatory submissions. Derek's engineering expertise began with a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Minor in Mathematics from the University of Minnesota Duluth, where experience included positions such as Mechanic's Assistant and Auto Tire Technician, demonstrating a strong foundation in mechanical systems and maintenance.
