Shaun Suitor serves as the Strategy Manager at Sustainable Timber Tasmania since December 2020, leading a small team focused on strategic projects, research and innovation, carbon accounting, natural capital accounting, and ACCU Scheme projects. Prior to this role, Shaun held several significant positions, including Acting General Manager of Land Management and Conservation at the Department of State Growth (Tas) and Principal Policy Analyst at the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning, where responsibilities included acting as Director during supervisory leaves. Additional experience encompasses diverse roles related to forest policy and planning, such as Manager of Forest Policy and Planning and Forest Resource Assessment Officer at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. Shaun's academic credentials include a PhD in Forest Science from the University of Tasmania and multiple degrees in Economics from the University of New England, complemented by leadership training from the Australian Institute of Management and the Cranlana Centre for Ethical Leadership.

Sustainable Timber Tasmania is a Tasmanian Government Business Enterprise responsible under State legislation for: - Sustainably managing approximately 800,000 hectares of public production forest (Permanent Timber Production Zone land) - Undertaking forest operations for the production and sale of forest products from these forests (including making available at least 137,000 cubic metres of high quality eucalypt sawlogs and veneer logs per annum). Sustainable Timber Tasmania purpose is to be a customer-focused and financially viable forest products and services provider, sustainably managing Permanent Timber Production Zone land for multiple-use as a community asset. Sustainable Timber Tasmania aims to: - Achieve and maintain financial sustainability - Efficiently and effectively make available agreed wood volumes and other services - Professionally manage public production forests to maintain wood resources and other environmental, cultural and economic values - Achieve zero harm to our people and contractors. Our forest management is currently certified under the Australian Forestry Standard which is recognised, under the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification, as being an independent assurance of legal and sustainable timber supply. We are also in the process of seeking certification for our operations under Forest Stewardship Council® standards.
