Swiss Data Science Center
Alessandro Nesti, PhD, serves as a principal data scientist at the Swiss Data Science Center since March 2019, focusing on team management, education, and community growth while supporting data science adoption across private companies, NGOs, and public administration. Nesti's previous roles include senior and data scientist positions at the same center, where analysis of large datasets improved client engagement metrics significantly. Experience also includes a data scientist role at Vendo, where analyses addressed online sales challenges, and a research scientist role at Campus Biotech, coordinating projects on multi-sensory integration in virtual reality. Nesti's earlier research positions include a postdoc at the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics, where supervisory and teaching responsibilities were fulfilled, and a doctoral researcher role focused on human perception measurement during a PhD at the University of Tübingen. Nesti also has practical experience from an internship at Università di Pavia, applying engineering skills to clinical diagnostics. Educational qualifications comprise a PhD in Neuroscience and degrees in Biomedical Engineering.
Swiss Data Science Center
Data science has become extremely important internationally, with the majority of top-tier international research and teaching institutions investing significantly in dedicated centers and programs. In this context, the ETH Domain launches the Initiative for Data Science in Switzerland to accelerate data science through both an expansion ofeducation and research, and the provision of infrastructure for data science users across disciplines. The Initiative creates both Master courses in data science at EPFL and ETH Zurich, and the Swiss Data Science Center (SDSC), a joint venture between EPFL and ETH Zurich. The mission of the SDSC is to accelerate the adoption of data science and machine learning techniques broadly within academic disciplines of the ETH Domain, the Swiss academic community at large, and the industrial sector.
