Simon Dirmeier

Senior Data Scientist at Swiss Data Science Center

Simon Dirmeier is a Senior Data Scientist at Swiss Data Science Center, specializing in machine learning and statistics, with a focus on causal inference, approximate inference, generative modeling, and probabilistic deep learning. Prior roles include Data/ML Scientist at Artificialy and Scientific Assistant at ETH Zürich, where Simon developed statistical and machine learning methods for genetic interventional data and conducted statistical analyses of imaging and sequencing data. Simon's early experiences include a Student Assistant position at Helmholtz Zentrum München, where genomic data was statistically analyzed, and an internship at BASF focused on software development for genomic data analysis. Educationally, Simon holds a Doctor of Science in Computational Statistics and Computational Biology from ETH Zürich, a Master of Science in Computer Science from Technical University of Munich, and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science also from Technical University of Munich.

Swiss Data Science Center

Data science has become extremely important internationally, with the majority of top-tier international research and teaching institutions investing significantly in dedicated centers and programs. In this context, the ETH Domain launches the Initiative for Data Science in Switzerland to accelerate data science through both an expansion ofeducation and research, and the provision of infrastructure for data science users across disciplines. The Initiative creates both Master courses in data science at EPFL and ETH Zurich, and the Swiss Data Science Center (SDSC), a joint venture between EPFL and ETH Zurich. The mission of the SDSC is to accelerate the adoption of data science and machine learning techniques broadly within academic disciplines of the ETH Domain, the Swiss academic community at large, and the industrial sector.
