Swords to Plowshares
Deepa Arora currently serves as Pro Bono Manager and Staff Attorney at Swords to Plowshares, where responsibilities include fostering stakeholder relationships, recruiting and training pro bono attorneys, and coordinating legal clinics. Previously, Deepa held the position of Supervising Attorney at Chicago Volunteer Legal Services, overseeing the recruitment and training of pro bono attorneys, as well as managing programs related to adult guardianship law. Deepa's early career included roles as a Staff Attorney dealing with administrative and veterans law, and various internships focusing on criminal defense, domestic violence, and public benefits. Deepa holds a Doctor of Law from Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law, a Master of Arts in Social Work from the University of Chicago, and a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature and Economics from Washington University in St. Louis.

For over 45 years, Swords to Plowshares has provided direct services for low-income, homeless, and at-risk San Francisco Bay Area veterans regardless of era of service or discharge status. They are one of the few organizations in the country that provide free legal consultation and attorney representation to veterans seeking assistance with the Department of Veterans Affairs benefits and military discharge upgrade cases.
