Jian Zhang serves as the Chief Technology Officer for China Seeds at Syngenta Group since November 2019, concentrating on strategic R&D alliances and partnerships in China to bolster technical support for Syngenta’s seed business. Prior to this role, Jian was the General Manager at Hua-Zhi Rice Bio-Tech Co., Ltd from March 2014 to October 2019, where expertise was applied in establishing an advanced R&D platform for molecular breeding to support sustainable rice production. Jian's extensive background includes serving as the Global Head of Quality Control at BASF Plant Science and holding multiple regulatory and biotech affairs roles at Pioneer Hi-Bred International Inc, focusing on the management of regulatory activities and cross-functional coordination in Asia Pacific. Earlier academic pursuits include postdoctoral research in soybean biotechnology at Noble Foundation and the development of transformation techniques for rice at De Montfort University. Jian holds an MBA from the University of Iowa, a Ph.D. from the University of Nottingham, and advanced degrees from China Agricultural University in Plant Cell Biology and Crop Breeding and Plant Genetics.
