Sam Hillyer's work experience began in 2010 with internships in the sound departments of the Chicago Shakespeare Theater and Lookingglass Theatre Company. In 2011, they worked as a Mechanical Design Intern at Fisher Technical Services. The following year, they served as a Controls Engineering Intern at Stage Technologies. In 2013, Sam started working as an Automation Technician at The Light Group and then moved on to Cirque du Soleil. In 2015, they joined TAIT as a Controls Integrator and later took on the role of Manager, Controls Integration and Testing. Finally, in July 2021, Sam became the Head of Show Programming at TAIT.

Sam Hillyer attended South Windsor High School from 2006 to 2009. After completing high school, Sam pursued higher education at DePaul University from 2009 to 2013. At DePaul, Sam earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) degree with a focus on Theatre Technology.
