Abby Johnston

Abby Johnston currently serves as Editorial Director and previously held the role of Deputy Editor at The 19th since April 2020. Johnston has extensive editorial experience, including positions as Executive Editor at The Texas Observer in 2020, Digital Editor at FRONTLINE PBS from 2019 to 2020, and Senior Editor at Texas Monthly from July 2015 to February 2019. Additional roles include Web Editor at The Austin Chronicle from January 2012 to January 2019, where Johnston contributed music and culture pieces, and various positions at Bustle and The E.W. Scripps Company. Johnston began professional development at The University of Texas at Austin, serving as Production and Special Editions Coordinator for Texas Student Media. Academic credentials include a Master's degree in Journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia and dual bachelor's degrees in Multimedia journalism and French from The University of Texas at Austin.
