Jia Yu

VP, Apache Sedona at The Apache Software Foundation

Jia Yu is a Co-Founder and Chief Architect at Wherobots, overseeing research and development for a scalable data computation engine focused on Spatial Analytics and AI since September 2022. Previously, Jia served as Co-Founder and Head of Engineering at Wherobots, establishing the engineering team and launching the company's first product. In addition, Jia has held significant roles, including Vice President and Project Management Committee Chair of Apache Sedona at The Apache Software Foundation since July 2015, and Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Washington State University from August 2020 to August 2023, directing a research lab with three PhD students. Prior positions include research and teaching assistant roles at Arizona State University, internships at Microsoft Research, IBM Almaden Research Center, and Apple, focusing on distributed computing and data systems. Jia holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Arizona State University and a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Software Engineering from Northwest A&F University.
