Throughout their career, Avery has held various other roles in different companies, including Software Architect at AssociationSuccess, Inc, Systems Consultant at Richland School District 2, Information Systems Analyst at BC Components, Inc and AstenJohnson, Programmer/Analyst II at PMSC, and Telecommunications Operator in the US Army.

Rick Avery attended Midlands Technical College from 1996 to 1998, where they earned an Associate of Computer Technology degree with a focus on Telecommunications Management. Rick then went on to attend Limestone University from 1997 to 2000. At Limestone University, they obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science.
