Mathew James

Substitute/extra Horn at The Calgary Philharmonic

Mathew James is an accomplished horn player and educator with extensive experience in both performance and teaching. Currently serving as the Artistic Director of Timepoint Ensemble since October 2015, Mathew has also held positions at The Banff Centre as a horn player since September 2017, engaging in various projects related to recordings, teaching, and performance. As the Brass Coordinator for the Calgary Stampede Foundation and a substitute/extra horn player for the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, Mathew also maintains a freelance music career, teaching horn across multiple venues in the Calgary area. Mathew's previous experience includes a role as Fourth Horn with the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra during the 2015/2016 season. Mathew holds a Post Graduate Certificate in Performance from DePaul University, alongside a Master's of Music in Performance and a Bachelor's of Music in Performance from the University of Calgary.
