Joe Mahoney has a diverse work experience spanning over several years. Joe started their career as a User Interface Designer/Developer at IBM in 1999. Joe then worked as an Independent Contractor before joining Morse Media as the lead developer for various projects. In 2006, they became a founding employee at Trade Mobile Ltd, where they worked as a Senior Developer, contributing to the development of software and infrastructure. From 2008 to 2013, Joe worked at 3Months, a software development consultancy, where they held roles as a Senior Developer and later as a Development Manager. During this time, they worked on projects for clients such as Toyota's NASCAR Racing Team and the National Library of New Zealand. In 2013, Joe joined Xero, where they held multiple roles, including Developer/People Lead, Development Manager, Engineering Manager, and Head of Engineering. These positions allowed him to enhance their skills in software development, leadership, and fostering a culture of secure and reliable software development. In 2023, Joe joined The Co-operative Bank as the Head of Development, Testing, and Security, overseeing a variety of responsibilities related to software development and security.
Joe Mahoney attended the University of Otago from 1994 to 1997, where they received a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Science.
