Mata Elangovan

Editor-in-chief at The Highlander

Mamata Elangovan is currently serving as Managing Editor and News Editor at The Highlander since June 2023, where responsibilities include editing 3-6 articles weekly for relevance and accuracy, maintaining relationships with campus outlets, and ensuring unbiased reporting. Additionally, Mamata has been a Program Advisor for the Academics: First-Year Honors Community at the University of California, Riverside, since August 2023, facilitating events for over 200 residents and collaborating with various campus stakeholders to promote academic initiatives. Mamata is pursuing a degree at the University of California, Riverside, between 2022 and 2026.

The Highlander

The Highlander is UC Riverside's student-run newspaper. The Highlander Newspaper is committed to the pursuit of truth, the free exchange of information and ideas, and maintaining a fair and independent student voice. The Highlander exists to serve its readership, comprised of University of California, Riverside undergraduate students in particular and the local university community in general. In our pursuit of the truth, we will provide accurate information relevant to the experiences and interests of our readers. The Highlander seeks to foster an environment where student journalists learn the necessary skills to become probing, fair and critical in their writing and thought. We strive to go beyond basic reporting through vigorous investigation, analysis of the facts and creative thinking. The Highlander is currently published each Tuesday during the academic year. First published in 1954, the Highlander remains an independent student media outlet.
