The Independence School
Bernadette Gilmore has extensive experience in education, serving as the Director of Academic Innovation at The Independence School since August 1994, where responsibilities include overseeing curriculum and academic initiatives for approximately 500 students from age 3 to grade 8. Previously, Bernadette held the position of Head of Lower School, managing over 20 faculty members and daily operations for 400 students. Other roles include teaching kindergarten and acting as Interim Head of Early Childhood, demonstrating a strong commitment to personalized education and parental collaboration. Earlier in their career, Bernadette worked as a director and teacher at Martin Luther King Cooperative Preschool and provided specialized education to students with learning differences at The Delaware Learning Center. Bernadette holds a Master's degree in Education/Special Education and a Bachelor of Science in Young Exceptional Children from the University of Delaware.
