Courtney Colwell

Courtney Colwell is a Staff Attorney in the Parole Revocation Defense Unit at The Legal Aid Society as of September 2023. Previously, Courtney served as a Policy and Litigation Fellow at the New York Civil Liberties Union, where responsibilities included managing relationships within the NY criminal justice space, conducting legal research, and providing testimony to various legislative bodies. Experience as a National Prison Project Law Clerk at the ACLU involved litigating prison conditions during the COVID-19 pandemic and supporting discovery processes. Additional internships included providing employment-related counsel at The Bronx Defenders and conducting legal research on eviction defense during the pandemic at the Urban Justice Center. Courtney has engaged in various leadership and advocacy roles, including the Emerson National Hunger Fellow with the Congressional Hunger Center. Educational credentials include a Doctor of Law (JD) from Stanford Law School and a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Political Science and Government from The Johns Hopkins University.
