Mia H. has a diverse work experience spanning over 11 years. Mia is currently the Chief Impact Officer at The Literacy Lab, a position they have held since August 2021. Prior to this, Mia worked at The Richmond Neighborhood Center from 2017 to 2021, where they held multiple roles including Program Director, Program Manager, and Founder and Chair of the African American Employee Resource Group. From 2015 to 2017, Mia worked as a Special Education Teacher at the San Francisco Unified School District. Before that, they were a Program Manager at Alvord Unified School District from 2013 to 2015. Mia's early career included roles as a Program Leader at Hope Through Housing Foundation from 2011 to 2013 and as a Site Coordinator at Think Together from 2010 to 2011. Throughout their career, Mia has demonstrated a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion by serving in leadership positions and contributing to employee resource groups.

Mia H. holds a Master of Science (MS) degree in Elementary Education and Teaching from California Baptist University. Mia also received a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Comparative Literature from California State University-San Bernardino. Additionally, Mia has obtained several certifications, including the Family Partnership Facilitation Trainer certification from the San Francisco Unified School District in October 2018, the Youthwork Methods Trainer certification from the David P. Weikart Center for Youth Program Quality in September 2018, and the Safety Care Trainer certification from QBS, Inc. in July 2019.

The Literacy Lab

The Literacy Lab is a non-profit organization providing children in grades PreK-3rd with daily, evidence-based literacy intervention in order to improve their overall academic success and to increase their opportunities in life. Literacy Lab tutors serve full-time in high-need preschools and elementary schools in the Washington, DC, Richmond, VA, Baltimore, MD and Kansas City, MO metro areas.
