The Menil Collection
James Craven is an experienced Conservation Imaging Specialist with a diverse background in photographic and imaging technology. Currently employed at The Menil Collection since December 2020, James previously held the same title at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston from December 2018 to December 2020. Prior to this, James worked in various roles related to imaging and printing, including positions as a CSR - Print Technician at BlueCrest and Maintenance Technician at White House Custom Colour, among others. James founded a sole proprietorship for professional photographic services and gained experience as an Imaging Specialist at Linhoff Photo and a Color Laser Print Lab Technician at Nu-kote International. An early career began with a summer internship as an Image Quality Engineer at Xerox. James holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Imaging and Photographic Technology from the Rochester Institute of Technology, earned between 2003 and 2008.

The Menil Collection is a museum and neighborhood of art spanning 30 acres in the heart of Houston, Texas. The main gallery building anchors the campus and is surrounded by four additional museum buildings: the Menil Drawing Institute; Cy Twombly Gallery; Richmond Hall, which features an installation by artist Dan Flavin; and the Byzantine Fresco Chapel. Making art accessible is vital to the Menil’s mission; no admission is charged and public programs are free.
