Chief Of Media Operations at Defense Health Agency

Peter Graves has a diverse background in media relations and communications. Starting in 2000, they worked as a Media Coordinator for the New York State Assembly. From 2001 to 2006, they served as the Deputy Director of Public Affairs for NYSDOT, where they oversaw a team of press officers and acted as the primary media contact for statewide transportation issues.

In 2006, Graves joined the US Office of Personnel Management as a Public Information Specialist, handling strategic and crisis communications, technical writing, and event planning. Peter also served as a spokesperson for the department and advised agency leaders on media implications of policies and programs.

From 2008 to 2010, Graves worked as a Team Lead for Strategic Communications at ITSolutions, where they oversaw a team supporting the Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Force Health Protection & Readiness. Peter was responsible for creating internal and external strategic communications policies and facilitating media interviews with subject matter experts.

After that, Graves became a Senior Media Relations Officer for ANSER, where they acted as the primary contract media relations officer for the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs. Peter responded to media queries, arranged interviews, and developed communications plans for topics related to the Office of Health Affairs.

From 2011 to 2014, Graves worked as a Senior Media/Newsroom Consultant for Engility Corporation, specializing in media relations for the Office of Health Affairs. Peter managed media queries, created a media training course, and developed and executed communications plans for issues related to the core functions of the office.

Graves then joined Akoya in 2014 as a Senior Media Relations Planner and Content Manager for the Defense Health Agency and the Office of Health Affairs within the Department of Defense. Their responsibilities included responding to media queries, coordinating interviews, and overseeing a staff of three professionals. Peter also created strategic communications plans and utilized social media channels for outreach.

Currently, Graves holds the role of Chief of Media Operations at the Defense Health Agency. Peter serves as the chief media liaison and spokesperson, advising senior staff on press-related issues and working closely with the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs and other organizations connected to military health.

Peter Graves earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from SUNY Oneonta, where they studied from 1995 to 1998.
