John McCoy has a diverse work experience in marketing and communications. John most recently worked as the Senior Director of Performance Marketing at The Smith Center for the Performing Arts, a position they have held since November 2015. Prior to that, they were the Chief Marketing Officer at Spiegelworld from April 2014 to October 2015. Before that, they worked at Type A Marketing where they held the role of Vice President from January 2013 to April 2014 and Marketing Director from July 2010 to January 2013. John also has experience in the hospitality industry, having worked as a Niche Marketing Manager at Wynn Resorts from June 2009 to January 2010. John has also worked at Cirque du Soleil, where they held the positions of Marketing Manager from June 2008 to June 2009 and Senior Publicist from June 2004 to June 2008. John began their career at Kirvin Doak Communications as an Account Executive from May 2001 to June 2004.
John McCoy attended the University of Nevada-Las Vegas from 1997 to 2001, where they obtained a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Communication and Media Studies. In addition to their degree, they have also acquired the certifications "Learning Word 2019" and "Online Marketing Foundations" from LinkedIn, both of which were obtained in August 2020.

The hallmark of downtown Las Vegas’ 61-acre urban development known as Symphony Park, The Smith Center for the Performing Arts is a public-private partnership that opened in March 2012. Heralded as the city’s Heart of the Arts®, The Smith Center is an architectural triumph and long-awaited cultural achievement that educates and entertains the citizens of Southern Nevada. The $470 million world-class performing arts center offers a blend of performances by resident companies, first-run touring attractions, lectures and internationally acclaimed performers in music, theater and dance. The five-acre campus features four performance spaces including the 2,050-seat Reynolds Hall, a 258-seat Myron's at The Smith Center, the 250-seat Troesh Studio Theater and the 1.7-acre Donald W. Reynolds Symphony Park for outdoor concerts. Additionally, the campus is home to the Discovery Children’s Museum that opened in March 2013.
