Assistant Provost For Undergraduate And STEM Education at The State University of New York

Phillip Ortiz serves as the Assistant Provost for Undergraduate and STEM Education at The State University of New York since September 2014 and holds the position of Editor in Chief for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Education (BAMBEd) since July 2014, a prestigious journal published by the International Union for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (IUBMB). Ortiz has coordinated efforts for the Empire State STEM Learning Network since September 2013, previously contributed to the NSF/SUNY/NYAS/ESC STEM Project at SUNY-Education Pipeline from 2012 to January 2015, and worked as Provost's Fellow—Assistant Provost for Undergraduate Education at The State University of New York from January to September 2014. Earlier experience includes a faculty position in the Center for Distance Learning at Empire State College from June 2001 to September 2014, and work as a scientist at the NIDDK focused on type 2 diabetes research. Educational credentials involve a Ph.D. in Physiology and Biophysics from Stony Brook University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine and a BS/BA in Biology and Philosophy from Binghamton University.
