Cliston Brown has a extensive work experience in communications and public affairs. Cliston began their career as a Staff Writer for The Times of Northwest Indiana in 1995 and later worked as a Reporter for Inside Counsel. In 2001, they served as the Director of Communications for U.S. Representative Pete Visclosky before joining the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America as their Director of Public Affairs and Media Relations. In 2007, Brown became the Director of Public Affairs for the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America, where they focused on media strategy and outreach. Cliston then moved on to the Surplus Line Association of California, where they held the positions of Vice President, Communications and Government Relations, and Vice President of Public Affairs. Cliston is currently working towards obtaining the Associate in Insurance (AINS) designation from the same institute, with an expected completion date in 2022. The Surplus Line Association of California

The Surplus Line Association of California serves as the statutory surplus line advisory organization to the California Department of Insurance (CDI) and facilitates the state’s capacity to monitor and direct surplus line brokers’ placements of insurance with eligible surplus line insurers. Working with its members and the CDI, the Association assists its members’ compliance with California laws and regulations; helps maintain a healthy, fair, and competitive surplus line marketplace in California; and strives to protect the interests of California insurance consumers.
