Maria Uspenski

Maria Uspenski started their career in 1981 at IBM as an Engineer. Maria later worked at Control Data Corporation from 1987 to 1989 as a Marketing Manager. In 2004, Maria founded The Tea Spot and currently serves as the CEO. The Tea Spot is a certified B-corporation that promotes health and wellness through loose leaf tea.

Maria Uspenski's education history includes multiple fields of study and degrees. Maria attended the School of American Ballet from 1970 to 1975, where they focused on dance but did not receive a specific degree. From 1971 to 1975, they also attended The Juilliard School for pre-college studies in piano. Following this, from 1975 to 1977, they attended Lycee Fenelon, where they obtained a Baccalaureat C with a focus on Mathematics and Physics. Finally, from 1977 to 1981, Maria Uspenski attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.

The Tea Spot

The Tea Spot, Inc. is an artisanal producer of handcrafted loose leaf teas and creator of Steepware®—the housewares tools that make loose tea easy. Its vision to modernize the whole leaf tea experience has held steadfast since the for-profit philanthropic company was founded by Maria Uspenski in 2004, a cancer survivor drawn to the health benefitsof leaf tea during her recovery. The company's model of social entrepreneurship incorporates its mission to foster health and wellness through loose leaf tea with its 10% Pledge. Ten percent of every sale made is donated in-kind to cancer and community wellness programs. To date, they have supported over 100 organizations and touched more than 100,000 lives with this 10% Pledge. The Tea Spot is a Boulder, Colorado-based woman owned and operated B Corp.
