Andrew Farke

Andrew Farke holds a doctorate in anatomical sciences from Stony Brook University and a Bachelor of Science in geology from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. He joined the Alf Museum in 2008 as Augustyn Family Curator, becoming director of research and collections in 2015 and museum director in 2021.

He is the museum’s fourth director.

His research interests focus on the evolution and paleobiology of the horned dinosaurs, dinosaurs of western North America, and the vertebrate paleontology of Madagascar. Raised on a farm in the fossil-rich plains of South Dakota, Farke became intrigued with fossils in his youth and credits middle school and high school teachers for fanning the flame of his scientific curiosity.

His research interests focus on the evolution and paleobiology of ceratopsians – horned beasts such as Triceratops and Torosaurus. He also works on dinosaurs of western North America and the vertebrate paleontology of Madagascar.

In addition to leading the museum, Andy teaches introductory and advanced courses on paleontology, leads Peccary Trips, and guides student research.
