John Miles

John Miles is an accomplished instrumentation senior systems engineer with extensive experience in leading complex projects in the field of astronomical instruments and systems engineering. Currently at TMT International Observatory, LLC since July 2017, John previously served as the integration and test lead at Giant Magellan Telescope Organization from March 2015 to July 2017. Prior roles include science instrument development manager and integration, test, and verification lead at USRA from September 2009 to January 2015, where John managed the development of key science instruments for the Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA). John's background also includes a research scientist position at Lockheed Martin, focusing on the James Webb Space Telescope's Near-Infrared Camera, and postdoctoral research at the Smithsonian Institution. John holds a Ph.D. in Applied and Engineering Physics from Cornell University and a Professional Certificate in Optical Sciences from the University of Arizona, along with a BSEE in Electrical Engineering and Physics from Rice University.
