Jim Reed has extensive work experience in software development and engineering. Jim has held various roles in different companies throughout their career. Jim has served as the VP of Devops & Cloud Engineering at Tillster, Inc. since 2017. Prior to that, they were the CTO at ROLR, Inc. from 2013 to 2016, where they were responsible for technology strategy and daily management of engineering and operations teams. Before that, Jim worked as a Software Architect and Engineer in a freelance capacity, where they developed custom software solutions for clients such as ICANN and UCSB College of Letters and Science. Jim also has experience as a Senior Developer at OpenX and as a Senior Software Engineer at ReachLocal. Additionally, Jim founded their own company called NovaEdge Technologies, where they provided software development and consulting services to various clients from 2005 to 2009. Prior to that, they worked as a Director of Engineering and Software Engineer at j2 Global, where they were involved in the design, development, and deployment of communication services. Jim's early career includes roles as a Software Developer and Research Linguist at the Speech Technology Laboratory, Panasonic Technologies, Inc., and as a Documentation Projects Manager at Durand Communications.

Jim Reed completed their bachelor's degree in Linguistics at Pomona College from 1988 to 1992, graduating with honors (Cum Laude). Jim then pursued their graduate studies in Linguistics at UC Santa Barbara from 1992 to 1998.
