U-NEXT was launched in 2007 as parent USEN Corporation's video distribution business GyaO NEXT, which was later rebranded and spun-off as an independent business. Just 7 years later, U-NEXT was listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, Mother's Market and in 2016, transitioned to the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
