Melanie Abley is a seasoned microbiologist with extensive experience in food safety, nutrition, and human health. Currently serving as a Senior Microbiologist and Senior Advisor for Food Safety, Nutrition and Human Health at the USDA since March 2021, Melanie previously held several significant roles within the USDA-FSIS from April 2013 to March 2021, including Deputy Director of the Office of Policy and Program Development and Acting Director. Prior to this, Melanie worked with USDA-ARS as a Post Doctoral Research Associate, focusing on antimicrobial resistance in swine production. Melanie's academic background includes a PhD in Veterinary Preventive Medicine from The Ohio State University and a Master's in Biology from Ball State University, alongside a Bachelor's in Biology from Mount Vernon Nazarene University.
