Derek Shepard

Derek Shepard is an accomplished professional with extensive experience in intelligence analysis and security management. Currently serving as a Threat Intelligence Manager and previously as an Open Source Intelligence Analyst at Kaiser Permanente since October 2019, Derek also holds an analyst position at U.S. Indo-Pacific Command since October 2021. Additionally, Derek is a veteran of the United States Coast Guard, where roles have included Engineering Officer for Port Security Unit 312 and leadership positions within the Sector San Francisco Intelligence and Enforcement Divisions. Previous experience includes serving as an Intelligence Analyst at San Mateo County Sheriff's Office and Emergency Planning Coordinator at Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff. Derek's military background includes service as an Aviation Machinist Mate in the United States Navy Reserves. Academically, Derek earned a Master's degree in Aeronautical Science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and a Bachelor's degree in Public Administration from San Jose State University.

U.S. Indo-Pacific Command

United States Indo-Pacific Command (USINDOPACOM) is one of six geographic combatant commands defined by the Department of Defense's Unified Command Plan (UCP). As a geographic combatant command, USINDOPACOM is in charge of using and integrating United States Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps forces within the USINDOPACOM area of responsibility (AOR) to achieve U.S. national security objectives while protecting national interests. The USINDOPACOM AOR covers more of the globe of any of the other geographic combatant commands and shares borders with all of the other five geographic combatant commands. The commander of U.S. Indo-Pacific Command reports to the President of the United States through the Secretary of Defense and is supported by multiple component and sub-unified commands including: U.S. Forces Korea, US Forces Japan, U.S. Special Operations Command Pacific, U.S. Pacific Fleet, U.S. Marine Forces Pacific, U.S. Pacific Air Forces and U.S. Army Pacific. These commands are headquartered in Hawai’i and have forces stationed and deployed throughout the region.
