Michelle O'Brien, MD, MPH, PMH-C has extensive work experience in the healthcare field. Currently, they serve as the Co-Chairwoman at the Minnesota Department of Health. Prior to this, they worked at UCare as the Medical Director. In addition, they have held positions at Lyra Health, Maven Clinic, and Sage Prairie Family Care, where they worked as a Mental Health Physician and Family Medicine Physician respectively. Michelle has also worked as a Lifestyle Medicine Consultant and Daring Way Facilitator at Authentic Health Movement. Michelle has been involved in various roles at the Minnesota Department of Health, serving as a Professional Representative Maternal and Child Health Advisory Task Force. Michelle has also worked with the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe as a Medication Assisted Recovery Support. Michelle has served as an Advisor at Mina and was a Family Physician at HealthPartners, where they also served as the Clinic Medical Director- Highland Park.

Dr. Michelle O'Brien received their MD degree in Medicine from the University of Minnesota Medical School in 1997. Michelle later pursued further education and obtained an MPH degree in Maternal and Child Health from Boston University between 2006 and 2009. Prior to that, they completed their BA in Biology, premed at St. Catherine University from 1989 to 1993. In terms of additional certifications, Dr. O'Brien is a Perinatal Mental Health Certified (PMH-C) from Postpartum Support International, and they are also a Certified Daring Way™ facilitator from The Daring Way. Michelle has also obtained a Buprenorphine waiver from the DEA. Dr. O'Brien has pursued continuing education in fields such as Functional Medicine from the Institute for Functional Medicine, Mind-Body Medicine from the Center for Mind-Body Medicine, and Integrative Medicine from Kripalu.
