Essala Lowe, Vice President for Administration and Finance, brings more than 20 years of research administration, regulatory compliance, and operations management experience for premier academic institutions, non-profit research organizations, and world-class laboratories. As a member of the UMCES executive leadership team, she is responsible for leading administrative and operational activities across the institution and plays a pivotal role in delivering effective and efficient research support, research facilities operations, and fiscal management and reporting.
Lowe served as Director, Operations for the Center for Functional Nanomaterials at Brookhaven National Laboratory and senior operational leadership roles at American Type Culture Collection, George Mason University, Northern Virginia Community College, and Howard Hughes Medical Institute’s Janelia Farm Research Campus. She has also worked as a consultant and facilitator in the areas of research regulatory compliance, research operations & laboratory infrastructure design, and strategic planning for private research organizations and academic/non-profit institutions.
She began her career in research administration and operations at The Rockefeller University and is an active member of several professional associations for research compliance, institutional operations and management. She holds a MPA with a specialization in non-profit leadership from Norwich University.
