Paul Murphy-Spooner has over 10 years of work experience in public relations and communications. From 2009-2010, they served as President/Firm Director of the Public Relations Student Society of America. In 2010, they were a Marketing/Public Relations Assistant for the University of Iowa Recreational Services. Paul then worked as a Public Relations Intern for Freestyle Public Relations in 2010 and a Reporter for Iowa Journalist in 2011. From 2011-2015, they were employed at FleishmanHillard, first as a Marketing Intern in 2011 and then as a Senior Account Executive from 2015-2016. During this time, they launched the Boston Market 'Log Out Look Up' campaign. From 2016-2019, they were employed at U.S. Farmers & Ranchers Alliance, first as an Affiliate Relations and Ag Communications Manager and then as a Senior Manager, Media and Communications. Finally, they served as Director of Public Relations and Issues Management for the United Soybean Board from 2019-present.

Paul Murphy-Spooner attended the University of Iowa School of Journalism and Mass Communication from 2007 to 2011 where they earned a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communication and Communication Studies. Prior to that, they attended Waukee High School from 2003 to 2007. In addition, they obtained a Private Pilot License from the Federal Aviation Administration in October 2009.
