Melissa Bowerman is a seasoned communication professional with extensive experience in brand communication and media management, currently serving as the Manager of Brand Communication and Media at Unitywater since January 2024. Prior to this role, Bowerman held various leadership positions, including Group Manager of Communication at OceanaGold Corporation, where the global communication function was built and led, and Strategic Communication and Engagement Director at the Department of Natural Resources, Mines and Energy, where strategic communication initiatives were shaped across the agency. Experience also includes Corporate Communication Manager at the Department of Energy and Water Supply, Senior Corporate Affairs Advisor with Xstrata Copper, and Communication Officer at AECOM, among others. Unitywater provides essential water supply and sewage treatment services to residents and businesses in the Moreton Bay, Sunshine Coast and Noosa regions. Every day Unitywater operates and maintains more than $3.4 billion of essential infrastructure, delivers quality drinking water and treats 60 Olympic-sized swimming pools worth of sewage for over 17% of Queensland’s population, spread across 5223 square km. Operations began on 1 July 2010 under the South-East Queensland Water (Distribution and Retail) Act 2009, as part of the Queensland Government water reform program. Unitywater is governed by an independent Board of Directors. Unitywater is committed to helping prevent and respond to violence against women and is proud to be a White Ribbon Accredited Workplace.
