Carsten Scharlemann is the Founder and CEO of R-Space since April 2021, and also serves as a Member of the Advisory Committee of the Aeronautics and Space Agency at the FFG Austrian Research Promotion Agency since September 2012, assisting in the development of aerospace strategies. In addition, Carsten Scharlemann has been the Head of the Aerospace Engineering Department at the University of Applied Sciences Wiener Neustadt since February 2012, where the department offers engineering courses and hands-on projects, including a Nanosatellite program. Previous roles include Member of the Board of Advisors for the Aerospace Cluster Lower Austria at ecoplus. Niederösterreichs Wirtschaftsagentur GmbH from October 2021 to August 2023 and Deputy Head of the Space Propulsion and Advanced Concept department at AIT Austrian Institute of Technology from 2005 to 2012. Carsten Scharlemann holds a Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering from The Ohio State University and a Diplom-Ingenieur in Aeronautics and Astronautics from the Technical University of Munich.

The University of Applied Sciences, Wiener Neustadt was established in 1994 as the first of its kind in Austria. From its inception and by law it was unequivocally positioned in the third level of education in Austria. Its aim was to combine academic studies with a more practically orientated education, which would be specifically suited to the business and technology sectors of today. The University of Applied Sciences, Wiener Neustadt currently consists of four faculties, Business, Engineering, Health Studies and Security. The University was awarded its official »Fachhochschule« (FH) status in 1999, again making it a pioneer among Austrian institutes of higher education.To this day, the University of Applied Sciences, Wiener Neustadt maintains its reputation of excellence and is internationally recognized as one of the top institutions of its kind. It remains the largest university of its kind in all of Austria, with the biggest selection of courses taught in the English language. With the establishment of the bachelor´s program Business Consultancy International (taught exclusively in English), the University of Applied Sciences, Wiener Neustadt hopes to further its reputation and international connections, as well as providing students with the opportunity of a truly unique and international degree.
