Kevin Fitzgerald is an experienced educational leader with a career spanning over four decades. Currently serving as a Board Member for the United Way of Delaware and a Lead Education Specialist at the University of Delaware, Fitzgerald has also been recognized as the 2020-2021 Delaware Superintendent of the Year while working as Superintendent for Caesar Rodney School District. Additional roles include Committee Member for the Education Committee for the Biggs Museum and Chairperson for FRIENDS OF THE DELAWARE ARCHIVES INC. Fitzgerald's previous positions include serving on the Board of Directors for NFHS and as a Commissioner for the Education Commission of the States. Fitzgerald holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Administration from the University of Delaware, along with a Master's degree from St. John's College and a Bachelor's degree from Frostburg State University.

The University of Delaware - a state assisted, privately chartered institution - is a Land Grant, Sea Grant, Space Grant and Carnegie Research University (very high research activity). The University, with origins in 1743, was chartered by the State of Delaware in 1833. A Women's College was opened in 1914, and in 1945 UD became permanently coeducational. The main campus is located in Newark, Delaware, a suburban community of nearly 30,000, situated midway between Philadelphia and Baltimore. Courses are also offered at the Wilmington campus and at other locations throughout the State, including Dover, Georgetown, Milford, and Lewes.
