Miguel Garcia Diaz is currently serving as the Vice President for Research, Scholarship and Innovation at the University of Delaware since May 2024. Prior to this role, Miguel held various academic and leadership positions at Stony Brook University from November 2007 to April 2024, including Interim Vice President for Research, Professor, and Associate Dean of the Graduate School. Miguel began their career at NIEHS as a Visiting Fellow from June 2003 to November 2007. Miguel holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Biochemistry from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid.

The University, with origins in 1743, was chartered by the State of Delaware in 1833. A Women's College was opened in 1914, and in 1945 UD became permanently coeducational. The main campus is located in Newark, Delaware, a suburban community of nearly 30,000, situated midway between Philadelphia and Baltimore. Courses are also offered at the Wilmington campus and at other locations throughout the State, including Dover, Georgetown, Milford, and Lewes.
