Suresh Advani holds the Unidel Pierre S. du Pont Chair of Engineering and serves as a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Delaware since September 1987. Suresh has also held the positions of George W. Laird Professor, Chair of Mechanical Engineering, Associate Professor, and Assistant Professor within the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the same institution. Additionally, Suresh has been a Visiting Professor at Ecole Centrale Nantes since September 2017, currently on sabbatical until June 2018. From 1999 to August 2023, Suresh served as the Associate Director of the Center for Composite Materials. Suresh earned a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and a degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay.

The University of Delaware - a state assisted, privately chartered institution - is a Land Grant, Sea Grant, Space Grant and Carnegie Research University (very high research activity). The University, with origins in 1743, was chartered by the State of Delaware in 1833. A Women's College was opened in 1914, and in 1945 UD became permanently coeducational. The main campus is located in Newark, Delaware, a suburban community of nearly 30,000, situated midway between Philadelphia and Baltimore. Courses are also offered at the Wilmington campus and at other locations throughout the State, including Dover, Georgetown, Milford, and Lewes.
