Heidi Appel

Heidi Appel is an accomplished academic and administrator currently serving as Professor of Biology & Biochemistry and Dean of the Honors College at the University of Houston since July 2023. With a robust background in environmental sciences, Heidi Appel holds the position of Affiliate Professor and Professor in the Department of Environmental Sciences at the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at The University of Toledo, where tenure began in August 2016. Previously, Heidi Appel was the Dean of the University of Toledo Jesup Scott Honors College from August 2016 to June 2023. Prior to these roles, Heidi Appel worked at the University of Missouri from 2007 to August 2016 in various capacities, including Senior Research Scientist and Associate Director of the Honors College. Earlier experience includes a position as Senior Research Associate at Penn State University from 2001 to May 2007. Heidi Appel earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Biology from the University of Michigan between 1985 and 1990.
