Ana Barros currently serves as the Department Head of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, a position held since January 2021. Barros has maintained a distinguished career as a Fellow of several prestigious organizations, including the American Geophysical Union, the American Meteorological Society, and the American Society of Civil Engineers, as well as being a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. Barros's academic experience includes tenure as a Professor at Duke University from 2004 to 2021 and earlier roles at Harvard University and Penn State University. Education credentials include a PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Washington and two master's degrees, one in Environmental Science and Engineering from the Oregon Graduate Institute and another in Hydraulics-Ocean Engineering from Universidade do Porto.
