Oscar Abel Sánchez-Velázquez

Postdoctoral Research Fellow at University of Leeds

Oscar Abel Sánchez-Velázquez is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Leeds since December 2024 and serves as an Academic Tutor for iNaturalist. Previously, Oscar held a similar position at CIATEJ and worked as a Visiting Researcher at both the University of Leeds and Tecnológico de Monterrey. Oscar has experience as a Scientific Coordinator at BlueMX Mangrove, A.C., and as Head of Natural Heritage Conservation at H. Ayuntamiento de Candelaria. Research experience includes a role as a researcher and PhD student at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, investigating gastrointestinal digestion systems in food, and serving as a Field Biologist for CONANP, focusing on coastal watershed conservation. Oscar holds a Doctor of Science in Agri-Food Biotechnology and has participated in research on brain cancer treatments during a master’s thesis at Instituto Nacional de Neurología y Neurocirugía. Educational background includes degrees in Biology and Agri-Food Biotechnology from Universidad Autónoma de Sinaloa, complemented by an exchange program at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana.
