Michael Williams

Michael Williams has over 20 years of work experience, starting in 1996 as a Site Archivist & CEARCH Admin at SunSITE/MetaLab/iBiblio. Michael then worked as a Network Security Engineer at NewSouth Communications and later AT&T, where they also served as the Managed Security Services Change Control Team Lead. In 2006, they joined Perimeter eSecurity as a Network Security Engineer (Level III) before transitioning to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2009 as the Network Security Team Lead. Alongside these roles, they also worked as an Elections Judge at Durham County Government.

Michael Williams received a Graduate Certificate in Appalachian Studies from Appalachian State University from 2021 to 2023. Prior to that, they earned a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Information Assurance, Security & Privacy from UNC Greensboro from 2011 to 2013. Michael obtained a Bachelor's degree in Communications Studies and another Bachelor's degree in Performance Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 1992 to 1999. Additionally, they hold certifications as a Palo Alto Networks Certified Network Security Engineer (PCNSE) from Palo Alto Networks in 2019, a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) from (ISC)² in 2015, and another CISSP certification from (ISC)² in 2014.
