L. Cameron Howell IV is the current Secretary at University of South Carolina. Howell previously served as the Vice President for Strategic Initiatives at University of North Carolina from June 2017 to March 2019. In this role, Howell was responsible for developing measurement and fulfillment of the 2017-22 University of North Carolina (UNC) Strategic Plan. This included collaboration within the System Office division of Strategy and Policy, with other divisions across the UNC System Office, and with stakeholders across all 17 UNC institutions. Howell also developed 17 institutional measures of contributions to the UNC Strategic Plan, along with institutional priorities specific to missions. In addition, Howell led strategic initiatives such as authoring UNC System policies, overseeing grant competitions, and managing an attempt to survey approximately 800,000 UNC alumni.
L. Cameron Howell IV received their PhD in Higher Education from the University of Virginia, where they also received their MEd in Educational Evaluation. L. received their BA in English from Washington and Lee University.
