Mel DeSart has extensive experience in library and information science, currently serving as the Head of the Engineering Library at the University of Washington since March 2000. Previously, Mel held the position of Acting Head of Science Libraries at the University of Washington Libraries from March 2006 to June 2009. Prior to that, Mel worked at the University of Kansas as an Engineering Librarian and Coordinator of Science and Engineering Resources and Services from May 1994 to July 2000. Mel began the professional career at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign as an Assistant Engineering Librarian and Assistant Professor of Library Administration from August 1987 to May 1994. Mel earned a Master of Science in Library and Information Science from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 1987 and a Bachelor of Arts in Classical Civilizations from the same institution in 1981.
