Matthew Scanlan has a diverse work experience spanning over several roles. Matthew started their career as an Information Officer at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where they worked from 1996 to 2000. Then, they served as Session Attorney at the Tennessee General Assembly for a brief period in 2004. Following that, they worked as an Associate at Colbert and Winstead until 2006, where they conducted trials, represented clients in regulatory proceedings, and lobbied for legislative changes in the trucking industry. Matthew then established their own law firm, the Law office of Matthew Scanlan, where they represented a software company and engaged in contract negotiation, drafting, and lobbying. After that, they became Deputy General Counsel at the Tennessee Department of Health from 2007 to 2009, managing a legal team and advising the Assistant Commissioner for the Bureau of Health Licensure and Regulation. From 2009 to 2018, Scanlan worked as an Attorney at Gullett Sanford Robinson & Martin PLLC, providing representation and regulatory guidance to clients in the alcoholic beverages industry. Currently, Scanlan is the Vice President of State Government and Community Affairs at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, a role they have held since 2022. In this position, they are responsible for managing institutional relationships with the executive and legislative branches, driving beneficial changes to Tennessee law, and ensuring compliance within the institution.
Matthew Scanlan attended the University of Dayton School of Law from 2000 to 2003, where they obtained a JD degree in Law. Prior to that, they pursued their undergraduate studies at Wittenberg University from 1992 to 1996, earning a BA degree in Philosophy.
