Vitaly Shmakov

Vitaly Shmakov is a seasoned legal professional with extensive experience in mergers and acquisitions, currently serving as Group Director, Mergers & Acquisitions, and Deputy General Counsel at VEON since August 2016. Prior roles at VEON include Associate General Counsel and Senior Legal Counsel in M&A, contributing to a team recognized with multiple awards at the 2017 FT European Innovative Lawyers Awards. Before VEON, Vitaly was a Senior Associate at Ashurst, specializing in M&A and private equity across various sectors, including financial services and oil & gas, with experience that includes a secondment to Cantor Fitzgerald/BGC Partners in London. Vitaly is pursuing an Executive MBA at London Business School and holds advanced degrees in law from New York University, the National University of Singapore, and Omsk State University.
