Mariel Bough

Mariel Bough, J.D., CIPP/E, currently serves as Privacy Counsel at VeraSafe since October 2022, where the focus is on enhancing data protection and privacy compliance for businesses globally. Prior experience includes a role as Associate Attorney at Quist, Fitzpatrick, & Jarrard, PLLC, managing pre-trial litigation strategies and serving on a breach of contract suit. Mariel gained practical legal experience as a Qualified Student Attorney at the UT Legal Clinic, assisting nonprofit clients, and as a Legal Intern at the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security, analyzing law enforcement seizure cases. Earlier roles include a Law Clerk position at Held Law Firm and a Research Assistant at the University of Tennessee College of Law, where research centered on the legal status of animals. Mariel earned a Doctor of Law from the University of Tennessee College of Law and a Bachelor of Arts in Equestrian/Equine Studies from Savannah College of Art and Design.
